Dickson 50 - a fast, comfortable Performance/Cruiser (OLO)

Built for solo offshore racing and refitted as a well appointed, performance cruiser with a large sail wardrobe, she has a clean modern interior and berths for 5. Powered by a Volvo D2-55 4 cylinder engine (2003) and well equipped with all necessities. HISTORY: The designer built the boat as his own, intending to enter solo racing. After competing in and winning the 1996 Solo Trans Tasman (New Plymouth to Mooloolaba) as first mono, he did no further races other than local club races where they often did "horizon jobs" on the local yachting community. Current owners have completed the interior fit-out but made no changes to the rig/deck layout etc - thus the performance element is unchanged. The water ballast was removed, enlarging interior volume and the keel was changed from a 10ft draft to 7ft but with an additional 1.5 tonnes of bulb to counter the draft and water ballast changes. This was done by the designer prior to the current owner's purchase and in his opinion the boat is as stiff now upwind as previous, but of course you lose a little off the wind by not being able to dump 2 tonnes of ballast! She is very easy to sail, performs well in light winds (not sticky) and responsive to change gears with basic attention to trim if you wish! Slips along easily anyway!
