Some History: These vessels have been around since the 1970s and appear to originate from the Isle of Wight. Many vessels of this model have been ﬁtted out in different boat building yards. It appears that the exterior was built in the Isle of Wight, and then sold for completion by others. Most are GRP. The engines vary greatly from 212 hp diesels to the later model Nelson 42 MK 11. 1998, described as a 44ft vessel, powered by twin 420 hp Caterpillar engines.

A dedicated multi-mission SAR Vessel built by Q-West Boat Builders in Whanganui, New Zealand for Auckland Coastguard to Maritime New Zealand survey. Currently in survey, the vessel has the equipment and electronics, the power and the equipment to handle virtually any marine emergency.
She would also slip easily into the role of a charter vessel for diving, oceanographic research, or offshore servicing.

Lion Foundation is a high-speed catamaran with twin water-jet propulsion and features an adjustable lift foil between the hulls. The vessel has two decks with the engineering and tankage below the hull deck line with the bulk of the accommodation on the main deck. The vessel has a raised wheelhouse aft of amidships. The engine rooms are compact and are under the aft cockpit deck.
The vessel was designed Teknicraft Design as a dedicated Multi Mission SAR Vessel and was built by Q-West Boat Builders in Whanganui, New Zealand, to Maritime New Zealand Survey and delivered in January 2015. She is constructed of welded Sealium aluminium alloy construction on formed aluminium frames, stringers and fore and aft girders. The decks and cabins structures are also all-welded marine grade aluminium. There are 2 traverse water-tight bulkheads throughout each of the two hulls. Integral tankage is forward of the engine room bulkhead. The exterior aluminium surfaces have either been covered with stick-on plastic film and decals or left to oxidise.
Foam filled Hypalon tubes are utilized as fendering on the hull topsides.
