Blair Harkness, Director
Blair Harkness is a former boating journalist, communications and marketing consultant and businessman. He is also passionate about boats, and has owned a number of sailing dinghies and keelboats since first learning to row a dinghy more than 65 years ago.
He has worked for yachting journals in New Zealand and the UK, and has travelled extensively throughout Britain, sailing, testing and writing about recreational boats and boating. Back in Auckland Blair covered yachting events for television and radio, and as a communications and public relations consultant, became involved in the marine industry.
Blair has written and presented a training video for the Coastguard, has raced and cruised the east coast around Auckland and north extensively over a long period, and has enjoyed a long association with some of Auckland’s classic yachts. He currrently owns a Townson 29, his second keelboat from this brilliant designer.
City of Sails Marine Brokers was established by the late John Colebrook, and Blair and partner Janis bought the business around 2007, building it steadily since then. With our emphasis on service and success we have many repeat clients – and we plan to continue that philosophy to bring buyers and sellers together to bring boating satisfaction to both.

Mike Parker – Sales, Whangarei and north
Mike has been boating since he got his first Kayak for Christmas as a child, ever since then being on the water has been his passion. Mike has owned small sailing and rowing dinghies, small outboard boats, to large yachts and launches. Mike currently owns a 32ft Pelin Pastime which he moors in the beautiful Bay of Islands.
Mike served his engineering apprenticeship with McRae Engineering in Whangarei and was actively involved in the construction and repair of vessels from small inshore fishing vessels to large ocean-going purse seine tuna vessels and everything in between.
His passion for all things on the water saw him go commercial fishing for many years up and down the North Islands east coast. Then when an opportunity came to open a marine refit and spray painting company in his home town of Whangarei, he started Pacific Gloss.
Mike has seen every side of boat ownership during his career and this has formed his strongly held beliefs around boat ownership.
Mike says, owning a boat should be fun and the maintenance should be easy, so with this in mind, Mike set up
New Zealand Marine Distribution, to supply everything you as a boat owner may need. He then set up Pro tech Marine Coatings, to supply marine quality coatings for your boat. From topside gloss paints, polyurethanes, antifouls and foul release coatings to contracted professional applicators across NZ.
Mike has now set up Northland Marine Brokers, based in Whangarei, and has formed a close alliance with City of Sails Marine Brokers, to bring his extensive boating industry experience to the buying and selling of new and used yachts, launches and power boats.
